Michelin-starred chef/owner Teague Moriarty and chef de cuisine Alex Jackson keep this tiny Nob Hill restaurant full, with a perfect combination of cozy atmosphere and a delicious, seasonal, beautifully presented nine-course tasting menu (which includes knockout desserts by award-winning pastry chef Robert Hac). It’s a charming place to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, as you sit by the fireplace and enjoy an evening of culinary delights. The set tasting menu is the only option here: Recent luscious offerings include Hamachi crudo with white miso and a pear, turnip, and marigold salad; roasted squab with stewed eggplant and golden raisins; and sunflower-seed custard with peach sorbet, sumac, and raspberries (intriguing, right?). The exceptionally friendly staff know the dishes well and are happy to accommodate any food allergies or dislikes. One last note: Don’t even think of trying to park a car on the street around here. If you must drive, the Sutter/Stockton garage a block away is a good bet.
