Of the many reasons to visit the upscale shopping stretch of upper Fillmore, this perpetually crowded small restaurant tops my list. Locals flock here for the fine cooking of executive chef (and 2014 Food & Wine Best New Chef) Matthew Accarrino, paired with the exceptional Italian wine list crafted by award-winning wine director and owner Shelley Lindgren. Order an array of plates to share, definitely including a pasta—perhaps corn raviolini with huitlacoche butter, chive, smoked chanterelle mushroom, and goat cheddar; or bacon-wrapped rabbit with eggplant, cherry tomato, and basil—and sample 3-ounce wine tastes, mixing and matching your way through a perfect San Francisco meal.
