Though not a destination in itself, this comfy outpost of a popular local cafe chain is the right place to come in Hayes Valley for a fortifying, generous “healthy-ish” meal at a great price. Here’s the drill: Order at the counter, find a table or a cushy armchair, and set up camp until your order comes to your table. I almost always get one of the gargantuan salads (they have about 10 fully loaded types), but you’ll also find bacon-wrapped dates, ribs, potpie, and sandwiches; there’s a kids menu, and, in the morning, a full breakfast. Additional locations include two in SoMa (one at Yerba Buena, 690 Mission St., and another in the Design District at 1 Henry Adams St.) and one tucked amid Upper Fillmore shopping at 2016 Fillmore St.
