Is this San Ignacio or Las Vegas? Whoever designed the pool would like guests to think the latter. It features LED lights changing the color of the water, plus a hidden grotto that requires swimming underwater to enter. This is presumably where people go to make out, so enter at your own risk. The rest of the resort is all Belize, though, with Mayan-style cottages (thatch roofs, screen walls), plus wooden cabins on raised stilts and corrugated roofs. There are also basic rooms in the main building (clean and comfortable, though the water isn’t always reliable). Some digs have air-conditioning and televisions, though you’ll pay more for those perks. All have ceiling fans, and with the large, breeze-catching windows, most find they don’t need the A/C. The Macal River is only a stroll away down a grassy lane, and you can spend the day lounging on the little beach on the riverbank. We also have to tip our hats to the staff who are an unusually friendly, helpful group.
