This is easily the most comfortable and luxurious option in the town proper (Ka’an is outside town). Set on a high ridge above the Macal River, the freshly renovated rooms are all spacious, with a touch of old world charm: four poster beds (in some), wrought iron railings, high ceilings. Three of the suites boast Jacuzzis. Queen Elizabeth II stayed in room 131 when she visited, which is why that room, and the others with a hillside view, are called the Regal rooms. In addition to the pool, there are jungle trails, the Green Iguana Conservation Project, and a medicinal plant trail. Staff, as at other resorts, will help arrange for all sorts of adventures. There’s one lighted tennis court, and an excellent restaurant and bar with great views from its terrace. The lobby bar and lounge and neighboring casino are equally popular with locals and guests.
