Housed in a converted old wooden plantation home, this boutique hotel is the handiwork of Steve Longrigg and Florencia Urbina. Steve has spent decades in the hospitality industry in Costa Rica, and Florencia is one of the country’s more prominent artists and the former director of the Costa Rican Art Museum (p ###). Rooms, hallways and common areas feature a varied and striking collection of contemporary Costa Rican art by Florencia and her friends. Guest rooms are also blessed with plenty of natural light, and most lead out onto a veranda with mountain vistas or common courtyard sitting area. All of these common areas overflow with tropical plants and flowers and striking artworks. This hotel is close to the Universidad Latina and one of the city’s few train lines, so street noise can be a problem at times.
