Of the two distinct destinations of Los Cabos, San José is best for accommodations in renovated historic buildings with colonial atmosphere. Though plenty of luxury resorts are along the hotel waterfront, if a resort is what you want, you're better off in the Corridor or Cabo San Lucas. Prices are high in San José, as throughout Los Cabos, but most hotels include breakfast. High season generally denotes December through April, and low season is May through November. Rates listed do not include tax, which is 13%.

In addition to the properties listed, the Corridor has a number of all-inclusive resorts, which, while all very expensive, may be a better deal for people who plan to eat in. Try the Zoetry Casa del Mar (www.zoetryresorts.com; tel. 888/227-9621 in the U.S.), next door to Ventanas del Paraíso at Km 19.5, Cabo Real. Most resorts offer golf and fishing packages, as well as free parking. All properties in this section offer free Wi-Fi. Rates listed do not include tax, and most hotels will add on a 15% service charge to your bill.

Ladies' Nights -- When Esther, Nathalie, Sandra, Jenny, and Lisa get together, things happen. The high-powered women owners of El Ángel Azul (La Paz), Casa Natalia (San José del Cabo), Los Milagros (Cabo San Lucas), the Hotelito (Todos Santos; www.thehotelito.com; tel. 612/145-0099), and Rancho Pescadero (Pescadero) have joined forces to offer guests integrated services and each other a network of support in Baja's male-dominated tourism industry. They can book you at each other's hotels, help arrange transportation, and probably tell you a few stories, too.
