The location at the Cervantes couldn’t be better…and worse. On a street in the heart of Old San Juan, with the free trolley stop right outside, it’s just a five-minute walk from the cruise ship docks (making it a top choice for those who are combining sea and land vacations). However that central location means it gets a lot of traffic and noise, both day and night. As well, the standard rooms are liliputian at just 200 square feet. But they’re cunningly designed to feel larger (with just the furnishings guests’ need) and all rooms feature a soothing color palette, pretty balconies and, for the bedding, luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets and custom mattresses. All this in a Spanish Colonial mansion with wrought iron balconies and arched windows and doorways—a charming and lovely space. We must also give a shout-out to the staff who are an especially hardworking and caring group. The nightly rate includes a sit-down continental breakfast at Panza restaurant at ground level.
