Parque Nacional El Cusuco
El Cusuco is well worth the time and effort if you're in the San Pedro Sula area for a few days. Set in the Merendón Mountain Range -- 45km (28 miles) away -- the park is dominated by lush, unspoiled cloud forest and some of the most diverse avian life of any national park in the country. If you arrive early, you have the chance to spot quetzals (they're easiest to spot April to June), toucans, parrots, and even a few mammals. There are two trails from the visitor center, Quetzal and Las Minas, that take no more than a few hours to explore. You can usually hire a guide from the visitor center for L90.
