If you need a break while wandering downtown, stop in at the La Pascana Center, which opened in late 2009. It has several restaurants, including Ikirau (an international café) and Lyambae (a place specializing in molecular gastronomy). On the opposing corner is Café 24, Calle René Moreno and Sucre (tel. 0103/330-4228), a laid-back restaurant and cafe that comes alive at night with bands and young clientele, and Lorca (tel. 0103/334-0562; www.lorcasantacruz.org), on the second level, which has one of the more eclectic menus in Santa Cruz -- there's even a degustation menu.
For truly authentic Bolivian cuisine, visit Casa del Camba, Av. Cristóbal de Mendoza 539 (tel. 0103/427-864), which boasts nightly entertainment by local singers and dancers, and a beautiful alfresco dining area where large cuts of beef and other Bolivian dishes are served. It's open daily from noon to 4pm and 6pm to 2am.
