If you're looking for a high-end hotel within easy walking distance of both the plaza and the galleries on Canyon Road—one with an equally plush spa, no less—then La Posada may just fit the bill. The property encompasses a mix of architectural styles in 26 buildings spread across six acres; the original building, an 1882 Victorian mansion, lives on in the Staab House bar and four high-ceilinged rooms. The rest of it, including the surrounding casitas, was added later in the adobe style, complete with kiva fireplaces. Most of the rooms have received much-needed remodeling (the work carried into 2014), with fireplaces and outdoor patios in some, and native textiles and marble bathrooms in all. The "gallery suites" are decorated with the works of local artists, as is the on-site gallery, with many of the pieces for sale. For dining, choose from the upscale, contemporary Fuego and casual Viga restaurants. Steer toward the spa for pool, wellness treatments, fitness center, and yoga classes. The $30 resort fee, which includes valet parking, draws occasional grumbles, but weekly free events like wine tastings and chef's receptions dull the sting.
