Planning a trip to Santa Maria Capua Vetere

Farmacia Salsano (tel. 0823-798583) is the most convenient pharmacy, at Piazza San Francesco 6, not far from the amphitheater. The hospital, San Giuseppe e Melorio (tel. 0823-891111), is on Via Melorio. For an ambulance, dial tel. 118. You can call the police at tel. 113 or at 112. The post office, Piazza Resistenza 1 (tel. 0823-818411), is open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 2pm. You'll find several banks with ATMs, including one on Corso Aldo Moro.
Getting Around
Santa Maria Capua Vetere is small enough to explore on foot; its most important attractions are along the ancient Appian Way, which is called Corso Aldo Moro.
Getting There
Trenitalia (tel. 892021 in Italy; www.trenitalia.it) serves Santa Maria Capua Vetere's train station with routes from Rome, Caserta, and Naples. The station is also a stop on the Metro Campania Nord-Est line (tel. 800-053939 toll-free in Italy; www.metrocampanianordest.it) from Naples and Caserta. From Caserta you can also take a taxi. By car, exit autostrada A1 at CASERTA NORD and take SS 7 (Via Appia). From Caserta and the Royal Palace, take Viale Douhet west; when it turns into SS 7, follow signs for SANTA MARIA CAPUA VETERE. Two parking lots are off the main road on the left, one behind Piazza San Pietro and another off Via F. Pezzella, which you can access from Corso Garibaldi.
