Hotel Rúa Villar

A charming bargain, this 18th-century manor house with a graceful arched arcade sits practically next to the cathedral in the historic center of Santiago. The modern furnishings harmonize with the stone and wood of the old building. If you visit in winter, request a room with a gas fireplace. Two rooms have lovely, if small, glassed-in sitting areas with views. As a bonus, you can enjoy the comfortable lounge (and bathroom) for the entire day even after checkout. As with the parador, many of the guests here are pilgrims who treat themselves to a big bed and warm bath after the rigors of staying in cut-rate hostels along the Camino.
