The artful blue-and-white porcelain that is the town’s trademark is available for sale at Sargadelos, Rúa Nueva 16 (tel. 98-158-19-05; www.sargadelos.com/sargadelos). Amboa Maeloc, Rúa Nueva, 44 (tel. 98-158-33-59; www.amboamaeloc.com), stocks similar ceramics, plus a wide range of other regional handicrafts.

A favorite of most tourists is tarta Santiago, a tart sold at virtually every pastry shop in the city. Also very popular is queso de tetilla, a mild local cheese shaped like a woman’s breast.

Many of the local wines, including assorted bottles of Ribeiro, Condado, and, most famous of all, Albariño, are sold without fanfare in grocery stores throughout Galicia. But for a specialist in the subtleties of these tipples, head for Charcuterías Seco, San Pedro Mezonzo, 3 (tel. 98-159-12-67; www.charcuteriaseco.com).
