The aptly named Hotel Unique is a truly striking choice for travelers looking for something a little different. Designed by well-known contemporary Brazilian architect Ruy Ohtake, the hotel is composed of a hull-shaped main building that's held up by tall pillars, creating vast open spaces that flank the glass-enclosed lobby at the base of the hull. The hotel is the darling of artists, designers, and other creative types, but also draws a steady flow of foreign and Brazilian guests who come for the chic surroundings and excellent service. Rooms are decked out with modern, white furniture, luxurious linen, Bulgari bathroom amenities, a flat-screen television, contemporary artwork, and elegant wooden floors. Round windows let in plenty of natural light—many rooms boast great city or park views, while the rooms at the extremities of the hull feature a curved wall. Hotel guests receive preferential seating at the Skye Bar, the magnificent rooftop lounge with sweeping city views, and may enjoy their swanky cocktails by the swimming pool, which is off-limits to non-hotel guests. The Unique is within walking distance of Ibirapuera Park, and is only a short taxi ride from the restaurants and shops in Itaim and Jardins.
