Italian-owned gelato shop Puro Gusto opened its doors in December 2013 on upscale Rua Oscar Freire, and became an instant hit. Join the line while you watch the gelato makers at work through the glass window that separates the kitchen from the shop. All 30 flavors are made from scratch on the premises, using best-quality ingredients and without any preservatives or coloring agents. The gelato has a creamy, rich texture and is served a little less cold than ice cream. I recommend getting a medium or large cup or cone so you can try at least two or three flavors. Choose from classics such as pistachio, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, lemon, or hazelnut, or try something more adventurous, like caramel with sea salt, or one of the Brazilian fruit flavors, like papaya, mango, or banana.
