Kids get to touch such cool stuff as stingrays (minus the stinger) and watch sharks in the shark tank at this superb aquarium. Part of the noted Mote Marine Laboratory complex, it features a 135,000-gallon shark habitat, resident manatee and sea turtles, river otters, coral reefs and assorted ecosystems, and the cutest “Oh Baby!” gallery of ocean animal moms, dads, and babies. Allow at least 90 minutes to take in everything on land. Add another 2 hours for a narrated sea-life encounter cruise with the Sarasota Bay Explorers (tel. 727/388-4200). These fun, informative cruises visit a deserted island, and the guides throw out nets and bring up sea life for inspection. You’ll need to make reservations at least a day in advance. This company has unusual kayaking adventures too. Admission also includes access to the Ann and Alfred E. Goldstein Marine Mammal Research and Rehabilitation Center  and Immersion Cinema where you can see the Dolphin and Whale Hospital. There you will find resident manatee, Buffet—as in Jimmy—along with resident sea turtles, Hang Tough, Shelley, and Harriet.
