Bijou Cafe
Housed in a former gas station, this charming, large (134 seats), white linen tableclothed café is a great spot to dine within walking distance of the downtown bars and theaters. The menu is a funky fusion of French and Californian cuisines, with appetizers like roasted garlic Ceasar salad, and mozzarella schnitzel, which we think is more German than French, but whatever it is, it’s delicious. Main courses such as a rich, roasted half duck with cherry coffee reduction and warm apple cinnamon apple farro salad are as appealing. They also have a very good vegetarian chili. For dessert, the warm apple cranberry bread pudding with Grand Marnier crème anglaise and the maple pecan cream tart are the way to go.
