Getting There

Air Fiji and Pacific Sun both fly from Nadi to Savusavu, and Air Fiji arrives here from Suva. Air Fiji's flights between Nadi and Taveuni usually stop here briefly, so don't let your travel agent send you all the way back to Nadi in order to get to Taveuni. The tiny Savusavu airstrip is on Vanua Levu's south coast. Hotel representatives meet guests who have reservations. A few taxi drivers usually meet the flights.

Bligh Water Shipping Ltd. and Venu Shipping Ltd. operate ferries to Savusavu from Suva. Patterson Shipping Services has bus-ferry connections from Natovi Wharf (north of Suva on eastern Viti Levu) to Nabouwalu on Vanua Levu. You connect by bus from Suva to Natovi and from Nabouwalu to Labasa. Local buses connect Labasa to Savusavu. In addition, Bligh Water Shipping Ltd. has service directly from Lautoka around Viti Levu's northern coast.

The small ferry Amazing Grace (tel. 927 1372 in Savusavu, 888 0320 on Taveuni) crosses the Somosomo Strait between Buca (Boo-tha) Bay and Taveuni 4 days a week. The one-way fare is F$25 (US$16/£8.30), including the bus ride between Savusavu and Buca Bay. Call for schedules and reservations.
