Tucked away in the secret little courtyard of Inn at the Market, this charming, romantic café-bistro overlooks the crowds and noise of Pike Place Market with a kind of Gallic nonchalance. You’re here for the bistro food, not sightseeing, but the sightseeing—or market-watching, anyway—is part of the atmosphere. Now that its more formal French parent has closed, Café Campagne has become the Pike Place place for casual and delicious French bistro food. Try the French onion soup or one of the pâtés as an appetizer, then consider the mussels in wine—so very French, and always on the menu—or the roast chicken. Other dishes change with the seasons, but the cooking here is always reliable and satisfying. That might explain why Café Campagne has been open since 1994. It’s a lovely spot for lunch or weekend brunch, too.
