This cozy restaurant in a Craftsman bungalow in North Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood showcases the organic and wild bounty of the region. Renowned chef and owner Maria Hines whips up a mouthwatering and ever-changing menu of organic seasonal delicacies—and when I say organic, I mean organic, because this is one of the few restaurants in the U.S. to receive an organic certification. Renowned chef and owner Maria Hines—she’s a James Beard award winner, and a TV presence from Iron Chef and Top Chef—caters to all comers with food that feels indulgent even when it’s the picture of healthfulness. What I would recommend here is to try one of the many tasting menus. Where else will you find a 5-course vegan and a 5-course gluten free tasting menu? Some stellar recent dishes included a zippy chilled pea soup; savory pan-fried Alaskan halibut; red-pepper risotto with eggplant, zucchini and pine nuts; and chocolate ganache cake with cocoa cream and sea salt. Diners can mix and match various dishes, because all the dinner entrees are available as appetizers or main courses. If you’ve never had a duck burger, this is the place to try one. The desserts are so good that’s there’s a dessert tasting menu.
