Since being launched by Jakarta restaurant impresarios in 2011, swanky Potato Head Beach Club (PHBC) has become one of Bali's hippest, most popular hangouts, voted Bali's "Best New Bar, 2011" by "Time Magazine." Within sprawling grounds alongside Petitenget Beach, PHBC resembles an ultra-contemporary coliseum, complete with an infinity-edge pool and a deck with an ocean of daybeds beside the crashing surf. An open-air beachfront lounge/bar and a bistro are joined by upscale restaurants Lilin (communal-style Southeast Asian tapas) and Tapping Shoes (classic French fine dining). Daytime is dedicated to lazy lunches and chilling around the pool on daybeds; sunset (especially on the weekends) is when hundreds flock here for lounge-y, mood-setting DJ sessions and an infectious party vibe, which runs till late. Arrive early to secure daybeds, bar sofas, or, at the very least, a patch of grass on the vast beachfront lawns. The trademark mixologist-inspired cocktails are sensational, if not downright quirky, like bespoke fruit punches served in glass bowls and a menu of Cocktail Creations like the divine Lemongrass Gin Kookaburra. Occasionally international guest DJs preside, and the grand-scale DJ parties and live shows, featuring celebs like Snoop Dogg, John Legend, and Fatboy Slim, are some of Bali's best.
