A destination restaurant/bar within iconic beachfront restaurant KU DE TA, Mejekawi is an ultra-contemporary tasting kitchen and food laboratory for discerning gastronomes—cutting-edge stuff for Bali. Mejekawi means "sacred table" and is open for dinner only, serving just two degustation tasting menus, either five or 12 courses, which can be paired with premium wines. The kitchen successfully references authentic Indonesian recipes and traditional techniques, using as much fresh local produce as possible, combining them with ultra-modern cooking methods, high-tech equipment, and global influences. The results are contemporary cuisine with highly innovative twists and a mad-professor touch. Each clever, immaculately executed dish, such as coral trout ceviche with blackened eggplant, sambal, and betel leaf, provides intense mouthfuls of contrasting flavors and textures, resulting in mini works of culinary art served by KU DE TA's most elite staff. Take it slow with the magnificent, but hardcore, 12-course menu; the five-course is more manageable.

Mejekawi is very much the intimate dining affair, with a maximum of 30 guests filling an oceanfront, glass-encased first-floor wing, with sleek, minimalist interiors of blonde woods and gleaming kitchen equipment. Seating options cover communal-style bench tables and a singles-friendly counter framing the state-of-the-art open kitchen, where you can watch the team act out its theatrical culinary show. (Pre-dinner, indulge in Champagne on the slender outdoor terrace surveying the sunset and Seminyak's pounding surf; you can also dine there.)
