Originally built in 1978, the Sejong Cultural Center is the largest arts and cultural center in the city. Remodeled in 2004, the main theater has three levels and over 3,000 seats. Each seat on the first two levels has an LCD screen for narration and information. Located in the heart of the city, near the Gyeongbokgung Palace, it really is the major cultural center for Seoul. You can see everything from chamber orchestra concerts to live rock bands, traditional Korean performances, and classical music concerts. The small chamber hall, which opened in late 2006, seats about 442 people. The outdoor Garden of Art opened in spring of 2007. Indoors, the cultural center houses three other art galleries, including the underground Arts Forum Gwang Hwa Moon Gallery, which offers a window view for pedestrians walking by in the subway. Tip: They offer free small performances for locals who live and work in the area. Since they don't really check for ID, it can be a great way to see a surprisingly good show and save your won for a drink afterward.
