The New World Shanghai (not to be confused with the Radisson Blu Shanghai New World Hotel) is a great option for people who are value-conscious yet don’t want to sacrifice too much on location and accommodations. The New World opened in 2003 and was renovated in 2013, and rooms are clean, spacious and modern with the feel of any of the more well-known hotel chains such as the Westin or the Hyatt. Amenities include a gym and small outdoor swimming pool, and free yoga sessions are occasionally on offer. Located in Changning District, you’ll be a little bit west of the main tourist areas and attractions on the Bund and People’s Square, an ideal opportunity to walk around the neighborhood and get a feel for Shanghai as a resident might experience it. There’s a good restaurant inside the hotel, although you'll also have plenty of options in the surrounding neighborhood and malls, and staff are well-trained. The Zhongshan Park subway stop is right underneath the hotel. If you're free one morning, head to Zhongshan Park early in the morning to watch elderly Shanghai residents performing their exercises.
