This casual hotel overlooking Zhongshan Park is in a busy residential area of Shanghai, away from the city center. By staying slightly away from Shanghai's touristy areas, you’ll get a more authentic feel for Chinese city life, and also get more bang for your buck than you would at one of the ritzier hotels closer to the city center. You can still subway into People’s Square in about 15 minutes; just avoid traveling during morning or afternoon rush hour, if possible. Pentahotel has been newly renovated and got a new sales and marketing director in 2013, so expect more from this higher-end value hotel in coming years. Rooms have been redone with new carpet and combinations of bright and neutral tan colors. Furniture is modern and rooms are bright.
