Sichuan Citizen is a favorite with locals and expats alike, with great cocktails, stone pot dishes, pepper beef, twice-fried eggplant, and other mouthwatering classics served in a casual, red-lantern and wood setting. The two-story restaurant is also good for hosting groups, as you’ll get away with paying about 100-150 rmb a head— including beers. It often tops best-Sichuan lists in Shanghai, but beware that flagging down a waiter is sometimes difficult, and you may leave with a feeling of being over-oiled and over-spiced, as this is by no means a “light” cuisine.
