Up the steps, on the square in front of the cathedral, this outstanding gourmet restaurant serves creative Mediterranean cuisine made from the finest local ingredients. The owner-chef is a master of surprises—to get an idea of the range of his skills, try the seven-course degustation menu. This might include delights such as pappardelle pasta with black truffles, prosciutto, and fresh basil, or monkfish cooked with zucchini and tomatoes and served with white polenta. The knowledgeable waiters will explain a little about each dish, and the sommelier can recommend wine pairings for each course. With its exquisite food, impeccable service, and romantic setting, Pelegrini reaches perfection. It is a little expensive, but worth it for a special treat (reservations are recommended).
