True, it’s nowhere near downtown Singapore, but then again they say nothing in Singapore is farther than a 20-minute taxi ride. Close to the east coast and to Changi Airport (though don’t worry, it’s not so close you’ll be kept awake by the roar of airplane engines), this high-rise 7-story hotel is not posh, but it's comfortable and offers lots of amenities. Its off-the-beaten-path location keeps rates lower than comparable hotels in town. From the awesome rooftop pool, soak up views of Malaysia, hundreds of cargo ships (Singapore is one of the world’s busiest ports), and Pulau Ubin, a small undeveloped Singaporean island a short boat ride away. Definitely visit placid Pulau Ubin if you have time to get a taste of what Singapore must have felt like a century ago.
