Planning a trip to Sisters

Getting There -- Sisters is at the junction of U.S. 20 (which connects I-5 near Corvallis with Bend), Ore. 126 (which links Redmond with Eugene), and Ore. 242 (the McKenzie Pass scenic highway). From the Portland area, take I-5 S. to Salem and then take Ore. 22 E. Allegiant Air, Horizon Air, and SkyWest Airlines (United Express and Delta Airlines) serve Roberts Field/Redmond Municipal Airport, 2522 SE Jesse Butler Circle (tel. 541/548-0646, ext. 3499; www.flyrdm.com), 20 miles east of Sisters.

Festivals -- During the annual Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show (www.sistersoutdoorquiltshow.org) on the second Saturday in July, buildings all over town are hung with quilts. The Sisters Rodeo (tel. 800/827-7522 or 541/549-0121; www.sistersrodeo.com), held the second weekend of June, also attracts large crowds. In early September, American music, from blues to bluegrass, is celebrated during the Sisters Folk Festival ([tel 541/549-4979; www.sistersfolkfestival.com). In late September or early October, sisters get together for a weekend in Sisters during the Sisters in Sisters festival (tel. 541/549-0251; www.sistersinsisters.com).
