Dakovo's impressive Lipizzaner stable stud farm was founded in the early 16th century by the Hapsburgs, who were charged with providing quality horses for Vienna. Dakovo's is just one of several such farms in central Europe. Lipizzaners are prized for their intelligence and their ability to respond to commands as well as for their agility. The horses are brown when they are born but they turn mostly white in about 3 years. You can visit and even ride these beauties if you call ahead. Tip: To get to the stud farm in Ivan Dvor, follow the signs toward Nasice for about 5km (3 miles). About 90m (300 ft.) from the road's intersection with Hwy. 7, you'll see a dirt road on the left that seems to go into the woods. Follow that for 2km (1 1/4 miles) to reach the farm. You will need a four-wheel-drive vehicle for this if the ground is wet. For more details, see the website.
