The most popular valley for hiking in Sobaeksan is the Heuibang Valley, where most people start their treks. When you hike along this road, you'll reach a waterfall, Heibang Pokpo, and the temple just a few minutes farther up the trail. Built during the Shilla Dynasty, it is a smaller version of its former self after its destruction during the Korean War. The trail goes up a series of stone steps and continues to the observatory on Yeonhwabong (about a 2-hr. hike).
