This 39-sq.-km (15-sq.-mile) marine reserve shelters some of Kenya's best diving and snorkeling -- there are some staggering coral gardens beneath the shallow waters and visibility is generally excellent. The park, surrounded by coral reef, is home to four small islands, including Wasini, known for its volcanic landscapes and sprinkling of old Arabic settlements. Unless you can afford to charter a private boat, your best bet for diving or snorkeling in the park is with super-efficient Pilli Pipa, a well-organized and long-established company that throws in lunch on Wasini -- it's one of the most sumptuous meals you'll have on the coast.
