Even if your time in Split is limited to a layover between ferries, you can hit the city's highlights via an organized walking tour that starts a few hundred yards from the ferry port at the tourist office outside the Peristil, just inside the Silver Gate. You'll see the Riva, the palace basement halls, all four palace gates, Narodni Trg (Peoples Sq.), Vocni Trg (Fruit Sq.), the iconic statue of Gregory of Nin, and Marmontova Street. Tours last 60 to 90 minutes and leave 3 times daily at 10 and 11:45am, and 7pm and cost between 70kn and 90kn per person, depending on the agency. Tip: Split Walks, which meets under a red umbrella at the Peristil, conducts all tours in English from June 15 to October 31.
