Hotels in St. Augustine
There are plenty of moderate and inexpensive motels and hotels in St. Augustine. A nice spot on the beach that’s just six-miles from Old Town is La Fiesta Ocean Inn & Suites, 810 A1A Beach Blvd. (tel. 904/456-0942). Each room or suite features a microwave and refrigerator. There’s a heated pool and gardens. Best of all, guests enjoy a daily complimentary breakfast, delivered to your room, with fresh-baked scones and muffins, bagels and cream cheese, yogurt, and fruit cup. Rates range from $108 to $195.
New on the beach in 2023 was the three-story, 120-room Hyatt Place St. Augustine/Vilano Beach, 117 Vilano Rd. (tel. 904/295-1111), located just steps from the sand and featuring a fantastic rooftop bar. Rates range from $136 to $352.
Once a ramshackle fishing camp, the Devil’s Elbow Fishing Resort, 7507 A1A S., St. Augustine (tel. 904/471-0398), offers 10 homey waterfront rental cottages built in the classic Old Florida style with covered porches, tin roofs, roof-top cupolas, fully equipped kitchens, and hardwood floors. They also rent all kinds of boats, and offer slips to guests. Cottage rates range from $300 to $600 daily.
There are also a good number of vacation rentals, so consult VRBO and Airbnb.
St. Augustine also has more than two dozen bed-and-breakfasts in restored historic homes—and one boat! They all provide free parking, breakfast, 24-hour refreshments, and plenty of atmosphere, but most don’t accept children (check before booking). Those listed on this site are in the historic district. For more choices, contact St. Augustine Historic Inns for descriptions of its member properties.
If you’re coming on a weekend, expect the higher end of the listed rates—almost all accommodations increase their prices on weekends, when the town is most crowded with visitors. Winter rates are also higher than summer. St. Johns County charges a 12.5% tax on hotel bills (6% bed tax plus 6.5% state tax).
