Where the Sun First Shines on the United States

The rocky promontory of Point Udall, jutting into the Caribbean Sea, is the easternmost point of the United States. Die-hards go out to see the sun rise, but considering the climb via a rutted dirt road, you may want to wait until there's a bit more light before heading here. Once at the top, you'll be rewarded with one of the best scenic views in the U.S. Virgin Islands. On the way to the lookout point, you'll see "the Castle," or Mountaintop Eyrie, a villa that claims Transylvania as its architectural influence, owned by the island's most prominent socialite, the Contessa Nadia Farbo Navarro. Point Udall is reached along Route 82 (it's signposted).
