This little jewel of an aquarium on Clearwater Harbor is low-key and friendly; it's dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of marine mammals and sea turtles. Exhibits include otters, sea turtles, sharks, stingrays, mangroves, and sea grass. There's a slew of education programs too, from dolphin encounters to trainer-for-a-day programs. A popular attraction is the Sea Life Safari, a 90-minute boat trip that scouts dolphins, sea birds, and other marine life en route to a shell island. One of the star residents is Winter, a dolphin rescued off the east coast of Florida who wasn't expected to survive after losing her tail. Not only did she survive, and learn to swim with a prosthesis, but she inspired Dolphin Tale, a full-length 3D film that premiered in September 2011, starring Winter, along with Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Kris Kristofferson, and Harry Connick, Jr. The sequel, Dolphin Tale 2, was released in theaters in 2014, with the entire cast returning to tell the story of Hope, another resident dolphin at Clearwater Marine Aquarium.
