St-Tropez is famous for its eye-popping hotel prices. If you're looking for a bargain, it's best to stay out of season -- prices double to quadruple for the summer season. Cheap summertime accommodation does exist in the two- and three-star category but you should be prepared for simple furnishings.
Another anomaly of St-Tropez is the huge variety of room sizes and bathrooms, even within the same room category. The reason is that many hotels (from Hôtel Byblos to La Ponche) are constructed from the amalgamation of historic village houses. Some standard rooms can be 50% larger than others and some standard bathrooms offer bath and shower where others offer just a small shower. Where appropriate, you'll find recommendations for individual room numbers and descriptions to help your choices.
Expensive -- The popular Hôtel La Mistralée (www.hotel-mistralee.com), on avenue du Général Leclerc, is due to reopen in summer 2012 after a change of ownership.
