Moorcroft Pottery
Moorcroft is a welcome change from the work of the pottery world's more famous names. It was founded in 1898 by William Moorcroft, who produced his own special brand of pottery and was his own exclusive designer until his death in 1945. Decoration is part of the first firing here, giving it a higher quality of color and brilliance than, say, Spode, creating floral designs in bright, clear colors (think of it as the Art Nouveau of the pottery world). There is much to admire and buy in the factory seconds shop. There is always someone around to explain the various processes and to show you around the museum, with its collections of early Moorcroft. Tours are not suitable for kids 10 and younger.
