Marriott Hutchinson Island Beach Resort, Golf & Marina
This is Hutchinson Island’s best resort, occupying the lush grounds of a former pineapple plantation. The sprawling 200-acre, multibuilding compound offers many diversions for active vacationers, including tennis, golf, boating, sport fishing, scuba diving, and other watersports. Rooms in the main building were in the process of a revamp at the time of this writing so they should be wonderfully spiffy by the time this book is out. They overlook the Intracoastal and the resort’s marina, the ocean, or the golf course. In the Sandpiper Beachfront Tower, guestrooms are more apartment-like with full kitchens and lots of room. Most have views of the 18-hole oceanfront golf course. There are three outdoor heated pools, a full-service marina, excellent children’s activities including a cute outdoor covered game room with oversized checkers, foosball, and arts and crafts. Be sure to sign up for a summer turtle watch so you can observe turtles crawling onto the sand to lay their eggs.
