Swinging into Sudbury

There are fourteen golf courses within a 25-minute drive of the city center. Lively Golf and Country Club, 305 Sixth Ave., Lively (tel.705/692-5502) one of the oldest in the area, is an 18-hole public course that winds through mature tree-lined fairways and scenic waterways. The green fees are $20 -- $33. Timberwolf Golf Club, 1930 Maley Dr. (tel.705/524-WOLF; 877/689-8853; www.timberwolfgolf.com) was designed by one of Canada's best-known golf architects, Thomas McBroom, a fact that has not gone unnoticed by Golf Digest, which ranked the club with 4 and a half stars as one of the Best Places to Play. It's situated on a huge expanse of land with marshland, rocks, white bitch trees and wildlife. The public, 19-hole course (green fees $25-$65) is only a few miles from downtown.
