Sriwilai Sukhothai Resort & Spa

Interestingly, this swank hotel has become a go-to alternative to a beach vacation for many Bangkok residents. It has that same kind of resorty-vibe, with an infinity pool overlooking the rice paddies (as well as a separate kids pool), and a swellegent spa, but has the plus of being just a five-minute drive from the historic park (or a 10-minute bike ride). Rooms have a Lanna-Sukhothai look, with high-pitched ceilings, finely carved wooden furnishings, and hand-embroidered throw pillows (all linens and pottery here was created locally). Ethical tourism is also a hallmark, which means that solar panels are responsible for much of the electricity, water is recycled (“brown” water is filtered to water the plants in the garden), and plastic use is kept to a minimum.
