Planning a trip to Swellendam

Visitor Information

Getting There

By Car -- The quickest way to get to Swellendam is via the N2, as described above. Alternatively, you can travel the more attractive mountain and semidesert routes.

By Bus -- Intercape, Translux, Greyhound, and Baz Bus pass through daily on their way to the Garden Route.

Getting Around -- On Foot -- This is the best way to explore the small village and Drostdy Museum complex. Hiking trails in the nearby Marloth Nature Reserve lead into the Langeberg Mountains; for permits and maps of hikes, including the popular but tough 5-day Swellendam Trail, contact the reserve office (tel. 028/514-1410).

On Horseback -- Short or full-day excursions in the Langeberg Mountains are offered by Two Feathers Horse Trails (tel. 082/494-8279) for about R200 per person per hour.
