”Behind-the-Scenes” tours of Sydney’s premier natural-history museum give a special look at this interesting place. Run daily at 11am, they allow a glimpse of areas such as the taxidermy lab where you might see a specimen of the now-extinct Tasmanian Tiger. You must be 12 years or over to take the tour, but family tours are also run on the first Saturday and Sunday of each month for ages 8 and up. Displays are presented thematically, one of the best being the Aboriginal section with its traditional clothing, weapons, and everyday implements. There are plenty of stuffed Australian mammals and birds, an insect display, and a mineral collection.
