Two new MCA Collection Galleries (Level 2 and Level 1 South) feature the works of more than 150 Australian artists acquired since the founding of the MCA in 1989. This imposing sandstone museum, set back from the water on The Rocks side of Circular Quay, also offers a changing program of exhibitions by Australian and international artists, and is worth at least an hour (probably more!) of your time. Free guided tours are conducted daily at 11am and 1pm, with extra tours on Thursdays at 7pm, and on weekends at 3pm. The MCA Café and Sculpture Terrace (tel. 02/9250 8443) has good views of the harbor and Opera House. It’s open daily from 10am to 4pm (to 9pm Thurs).
