This heritage-listed building (built in 1821 and once the parcels post office for Central Station next door), has been converted to elegant and roomy studio rooms and apartments. My pick is the one-bedroom Premier apartments, which are on the higher levels of the hotel; some are corner rooms, which have wonderful round windows with view of the Central Station clock-tower. There’s no restaurant, but meals are available in the great atmospheric cafe Mezbah ([tel] 02/9555 7067; at the back of the hotel, with a charge-back to your room.
