You’ll be hard-pressed to find a better moderately priced Indian restaurant in the Sydney area. Tucked away up a staircase next to the Steyne Hotel (just off the Corso near the main beach), Ashiana has won prizes for its traditional spicy cooking. Portions are large and filling. The signature dish is a magnificent butter chicken, while I have heard the malai kofta (cheese and potato dumplings in mild, creamy sauce) described as “the best this side of Bombay”.
