Getting There -- Tafi del Valle lies 107km (66 miles) west of provincial capital San Miguel de Tucumán on RP 307. Empresa Aconquija (tel. 0381/422-7620 in Tucuman, or 3867/421025 in Tafi del Valle; www.transporteaconquija.com.ar) offers daily buses; the trip takes 2 1/2 hours and costs $4.50 (£3.05). The same company also runs a daily route between Tafi and Cafayate 120km (75 miles) away. The small, modern terminal (tel. 3867/421025) is on Avenida Gobernador Critto, close to Estancia Los Cuartos.

Visitor Information -- The Oficina de Turismo, Av. Miguel Critto 311 (tel. 3867/421880; www.tucumanturismo.gov.ar), has no English-speaking staff and is a little short on flyers and maps. However, you can get a comprehensive list of lodgings in the area. One recommended adventure-tourism agency is La Cumbre, Avenida Presidente Perón 120 (tel. 3867/421768).
