Getting There
By Bus & Grand Taxi -- Private bus companies from both Casablanca (14 hr.; 165dh) and Marrakech (7 hr.; 135dh) make the trip to Tafraoute daily. Trans Balady (tel. 0528/843212) travels from Agadir (5 hr.; 80dh) via Tiznit (3 1/2 hr.; 40dh) twice a day. Grands taxis from Tiznit (2 1/2 hr.; 45dh) depart daily.
Visitor Information -- Ahmed Ouardarass's Tafraout Aventure is the unofficial tourism office in town, located on place al Massira in the town center (tel. 0528/801368; www.tafraout-aventure.com). It's open daily from 8am to 8pm. They have information and a map on Tafraoute and the Ameln Valley, hire out mountain bikes, and offer guided 4WD tours.
Fast Facts -- BMCE (tel. 0528/801582), on avenue Mokhtar Souissi, just west of place al Massira, has a bureau de change and ATM. It's open Monday to Friday 8:15am to 3:45pm. Pharmacie al Massira, on place al Massira (tel. 0528/800160), is open daily from 8am to 9pm. Internet can be accessed at Tafraout Club des Internantes, opposite the BMCE bank, open daily from 10am to 10pm. Tafraoute's post office is on place al Massira and is open Monday to Friday 8:15am to 4:30pm.
Getting Around
The best way to experience the natural and rugged beauty around Tafraoute is by foot or bicycle. For further exploration of the Ameln Valley, a 4WD is required.
By Bike -- Mountain bikes can be rented from Tafraoute Aventure for 70dh per day without shock absorbers, 100dh with shock absorbers.
By Organized Tour -- Tafraoute Aventure offers a range of tours, such as a day's guided walk farther along the Ameln Valley, including lunch in a Berber house (400dh) and a full-day 4WD and walking tour of the surrounding gorges, engravings, and rock formations (1,200dh per vehicle). They also do a 3-day tour to Ouarzazate via Tata and the Dra Valley for 2,200dh to 2,500dh per person. In Agadir, Major Travel Services (MTS) in the Complex Manader, boulevard du 20 Août (tel. 0528/827429 or 0669/837345), offers a full-day tour to Tiznit and Tafraoute for 1,050dh adults, 490dh children 11 and under, including lunch.
