It's pricey, but the Hotel Eclat has an élan that no other hotel in Taipei can match. The lobby is adorned with museum-quality-yet-whimsical pieces of art (including a Salvador Dali sculpture). The two on-site restaurants (they provide room service) are genuinely gourmet. And the rooms are drop-dead gorgeous, mostly done in soothing taupes and browns, with the finest of linens, handsome paintings over the beds, polished wood floors, and gee-whiz bathrooms that feature three different shower heads and Japanese toilets. Those seeking luxury can look no further. Children under the age of 12, alas, are not welcome.
